This article concerns the development of Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Grail.

Early versions[]

Conquests of Camelot was demonstrated in Sierra's 1989 video catalog. This version of the game featured several notable graphical differences from the final product.

The original game title, as seen both in-game and on an early version of the box art, was King Arthur and the Search for the Grail. It was also known as Conquests of Camelot I.

In this early version of the game, the parser input text box was cyan-colored. Several of the backgrounds later had details redrawn, including the symbols at the corners of each screen. Some animations were also changed, such as the glow around the vision of the Grail that Christ sends to Arthur in Camelot's chapel. In addition, the era of the game, as seen on the map of Britain, was originally 900 AD; however, in the final game, it reads 800 AD.

In the second working title it was called Conquest of Camelot (no 's' and no 'subtitle'). Likely to add 'Quest' into the title and follow naming conventions of other Sierra quest games.

The Hintbook referred to it as Conquests of Camelot 1: King Arthur and the Search for the Holy Grail. The ending also sort of ended on a cliffhanger between Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere.
